“Potawatomi” Poncho, by Carol Sunday ★/★★/★★★
The first class is a stunning poncho, “Potawatomi”, by Carol Sunday. It is knit flat in one piece, mainly in stockinette, and features a dramatic cable border, knit in fringe and a ribbed cowl collar that can be buttoned. A single seam runs up one side from the ribbing to the neckline. You will be responsible for purchasing the pattern which is available at: www.SundayKnits.com. Kits are also available featuring her yarns.
The following are techniques you will learn/review during the course of this project:
Knit in fringe
Cabling with/without a cable needle
Reading cable charts
Neckline shaping with increase and decrease Placement for ease of PU
PU stitches for ribbed cowl collar
Mattress stitch seaming
Weaving in the ends
(You are responsible for purchasing the pattern. Kits also available.)

Class 1. Swatch for gauge and learn cables.
Class 2. CO and begin poncho.
Class 3. Begin neckline shaping with decrease portion.
Class 4. Complete neckline shaping with increase portion.
Class 5. BO poncho and PU for ribbed cowl collar.
Class 6. Learn to work buttonholes.
Class 7. BO cowl collar and seam poncho. Weave in the ends and how to block.
The suggested yarn for this project is Cascade Eco. This worsted weight wool is available in colors and neutrals. It provides a wonderfully crisp stitch definition that will highlight your cable work and is available from Webs at www.yarn.com. You will need approximately 1200 to 1400 yards.
Additional general supplies include:
Needles (32 - 40 inch circular) to get gauge of 4.25 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch
Color markers (safety pin style recommended)
Scrap yarn approximately same weight using, either undyed or neutral color
Four 7/8” buttons
Cable needle or double point
Please bring your pattern, note pad and pencil to each class
